The Department of Dance is located on the first floor of the Center for the Arts, at the corner of Osler and Cross Campus drives. The Center for the Arts was designed with an emphasis on the teaching and learning environment.
Departmental classes are usually limited to 16 students. Dance faculty offices, classrooms, and four large, well equipped dance studios are located in the Center for the Arts. Studios have mirrored walls and movable barres. All studio and performance areas are equipped with sound systems and have sprung laid floors covered with marley. Locker and changing rooms are available for both men and women during class or performance. Accompanists are available for ballet and modern classes and for performances if requested.
An extensive college of dance books, periodicals, references and videotapes is available in the Albert S. Cook Library and is supplemented by the Dance Department’s collection of slides and films.
Intimate dance concert performances are held in the Dance Studio Theatre 1003, a 60-seat black box theatre with state-of-the-art lighting board, convenient backstage access, and full facilities for dancer preparations.
The Stephens Hall Theatre, located in historic Stephens Hall on York Road, offers a larger venue for dance performances by faculty and staff. The theatre seats 608 in the main level and balcony.
