Stephanie Powell graduated from Goucher College in 1982 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Dance Education and in 1999 from Johns Hopkins University with a Masters degree in Liberal Arts. She has more than twenty-one years of experience teaching modern, jazz, African dance and ballet at colleges, universities and private studios throughout the United States.

She is currently on faculty of the Baltimore School for the Arts in Maryland and the AKA Academy, and has had her choreography commissioned by Jacksonville University, Towson University, The Ballet Theatre of Annapolis, University of Alabama at Birmingham, Kinetics Dance Theatre and Northern Illinois University.

Dancers trained by Ms. Powell have been seen in various schools and professional companies such as The Alvin Ailey American Dance Company, Dance Theatre, Hubbard Street Dance Company, Maurice Bejart, Boston Ballet, The Julliard School, SUNY at Purchase, NYC, Columbia University, Dayton Contemporary Dance Company, Philadanco, and in the stage productions of "The Lion King" and "The Rug Rats."

Stephanie is the recipient of the prestigious Lehman Award in 2001. She is also the recipient of numerous grants and awards for her artistry and community service including the Individual Artist Award in Choreography from the Maryland State Arts Council in 1995, 1997, 1999,and 2003. She has also won the City Arts grant in 1998 and 1999 from the Mayor's Advisory Committee on Art and Culture for programs involving inner city youth.

Stephanie is Founder/Artistic Director of Glory to God Arts Ministry and In The Spirit Dance Ministry, The Stephanie Powell Dance Ensemble and Baltimore Dance Tech, her own dance school in West Baltimore
