The Center "broadens" its children by exposing them them to other children from around the world. Children in the Center have an opportunity which few children in the area have to interact with children from many cultures. Many children in the center are bilingual. In addition to English, children will learn that people speak other languages, like their friends do. You will hear children trying out different phrases which their friends speak. Ideas, languages, customs are being shared in our Center. Children grow here knowing that people don't all eat the same types of foods, sing the same songs, wear the same types of clothes, call their dogs "barks" the same sounds..

Collaborations:

In addition, through our long-time collaboration with the Baltimore County Schools Child Care Connections, children will be able to interact with older children who are special learners. These young adults are working in our classrooms under supervision in a vocational training setting. The students have been very helpful in assisting our teachers in the classroom.  Seven of these former students are now working in settings which serve young children in the community.

Towson University Outreach is a post secondary functional academic learning support program. The Child Care Connection is a vocational program designed to train transitioning students with disasbilities as early childhood assistants in programs serving young children with and without disabilities. This Baltimore County Public Schools Special Education Program provides inclusive career opportunities with long term benefits and enrichment for all involved. By meeting the needs of the students involved, as well as the community, it serves as an enrichment program with reciprocal benefits.

The Child Care Connection addresses the needs of the increased number of children requiring early intervention services and out of home child care while providing productive employment opportunities for transition youth. The integration of these needs serves as the basis for this program.

  • This year, for the first time, Johnnycake Elementary School, will be bringing its children here for our "Read Across America" event, held in late February. Again, we are engaging in a collaborative effort to support students whose emerging skills are perfect for the level of attention which our children are typically able to sustain.
