Van Bokkelen Hall Auditorium
The auditorium in historic Van Bokkelen Hall has undergone a $700,000 restoration. The 130-seat auditorium serves as a lecture and screening space used primarily by the departments of Mass Communication and Communication Studies and Electronic Media and Film in the College of Fine Arts and Communication.
The main entrance to the auditorium is on the second floor and is flanked by two small galleries. The space is wheelchair-accessible from the first floor and parking lot. A state-of-the-art teaching station is located at the front of the room. The auditorium is equipped with a high-definition projector, surround sound, assisted hearing headsets and upgraded lighting. A new retractable 16-by-9-foot projection screen has also been added.
 |
While historic elements such as the wooden ceiling beams and stage floor have been preserved, the auditorium is furnished with state-of-the-art seating with flip-up tablets for classroom use. Two small, open ‘balconies’ are located at the top of the stairs.
As part of the renovation, the stage has been reconfigured and the heavy stage curtains have been replaced with a permanent wall. The stage area itself serves as a 600-square-foot seminar room and reception area. |
