Joel Bolling started as the Associate Director for LGBT Student Development in the Center for Student Diversity at Towson University in August, 2012. In this role, Joel works to support lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex, and ally (LGBTQIA) students at Towson University and the greater LGBTQIA community. To accomplish this, Joel provides counseling, advising, academic support, diversity trainings, Safe Space programs, and guest lectures for the Towson University campus.

Prior to coming to the Towson University, Joel was the Coordinator for LGBTQIA Programs & Services at the University of Missouri-Kansas City, running their LGBTQIA office. Further, Joel served as the Program Organizer for the Pride Collaborative within the Center for Student Cultural Diversity at the University of Nevada, Reno. There, Joel worked with underrepresented and underserved populations, with a particular focus on the LGBTQIA community, women's equity, African American students, and religious minorities. During that time, Joel’s work included guest lectures and practicum supervision within the fields of social work, medicine, nursing, human development and family studies, and psychology, and education.

Joel received his bachelor of science degree with a major in biology and minor in cultural anthropology from the University of Nevada, Reno. Though starting a master of science in biology, Joel ultimately completed a master of arts in educational leadership with a focus in higher education administration, also from the University of Nevada. Joel is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Organizational Development and Leadership from the University of the Rockies with a particular interest in organizational psychology and vicarious trauma.

Joel's community involvement has included serving as the current Mid-Atlantic and past Midwest Regional Representative to the Consortium of Higher Education LGBT Resource Professionals, Chair of Membership & Community Events for the Human Rights Campaign’s Kansas City Steering Committee, Director on the Board for the Kansas City Anti-Violence Project, Member of the Northern Nevada STD/HIV Planning and Prevention Council, and Director of Educational Activities for Beta Lambda Alumni Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.
