Maren Greathouse is the Director for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) Student Development. In this role, she serves, first and foremost, as a resource and mentor for LGBT students in regards to their academic, personal and professional success. She provides support for LGBT and Ally faculty and staff through academic and professional support, policy advocacy and community development. She also serves the wider campus community through educational campaigns and speaking engagements to raise awareness campus-wide about homophobia, heterosexism, transphobia, and cisgenderism. In her administrative capacity, she seeks to foster a campus climate that is inclusive of gender and sexual diversity through policy development, strategic planning, and outreach.

Maren hails from the Midwest, where she graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Music and a Masters of Science degree in Social Responsibility from Saint Cloud State University in central Minnesota. In this program, she explored the intersections of race/ethnicity, gender, sex, class, ability, age, size, etc. and the role of individuals, organizations, communities and nation states on the social welfare of others. Her graduate research focused around employment access and discrimination faced by transgender women. She previously worked at the University of Wisconsin-Madison in LGBT Student Affairs, serving as advisor for student organizations and leadership development.

She is a member of the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators (NASPA), the American College Personnel Association (ACPA), the National Clearinghouse for Leadership Programs, and the Consortium of Higher Education LGBT Resource Professionals. In addition, Maren sits on several university committees to include the Institutional Eating Disorders Committee, the Sexual Assault Awareness Committee, and the Leadership Committee.

In her spare time, Maren likes to relax!
