Matt Chambers, Associate Professor, presented a paper, “Did Housing Policies Cause the Post-War Boom in Homeownership? A General Equilibrium Analysis,” on May 21 at the Midwest Macroeconimcs Meeting in Nashville, TN.

John Egger, Professor, reports that his article, "William H. Hutt: The 'Classical' Austrian," has been translated into Turkish and published in the journal Liberal, Vol. 15, Nos. 59-60 (2010), pp.185-193.


Michael Makowsky, Assistant Professor, delivered a presentation, "Pursuing graduate studies in the economics of religion," at the Association for the Study of Religion, Economics & Culture's 2011 Annual Meeting on April 16 in Crystal City, Va.

Timothy Sullivan, Chairperson and Associate Professor, delivered a presentation, "Comparing the most recent Great Recession with the Great Depression of the 1930s," at the Creating, Building, and Preserving Wealth seminar held at TU's Osher Lifelong Learning Institute on Apr. 16.

James A. Dorn, Professor, had an article, "Prospect of a Global Trade War," published in China 2011, the annual editon of Caixin/China Reform, edited by Hu Shuli.

Christine Eifert, Administrative Assistant II, was one of only a few staff members to earn a Certificate of Completion for taking part in the Office of Human Resources' Customer Service Competency program. Eifert was chosen to participate in the pilot program for this "focus" series, receiving one of the first certificates awarded.

Michael Makowsky, Assistant Professor, will have an article, "Religion, Clubs, and Emergent Social Divides," published in an upcoming issue of the Journal of Economic Behavior and Organization.

Timothy Sullivan, Chairperson and Associate Professor, spoke at the mid-Atlantic Nursery Trade Show on Jan. 5 in Baltimore. He discussed the history of the economy, current economic climate, prospects for the future economy and how each impacts the horticultural industry.

Congratulations to CBE student Melanie Dorsett! Dorsett, who is pursuing a combined major with Economics and Geography and Environmental Planning, had her article, "Exxon Valdez Oil Spill Continued Effects On The Alaskan Economy," published in the Colonial Academic Alliance Undergraduate Research Journal.

Congratulations to Melissa Groves, Associate Professor! Dr. Groves works with the Baltimore Cash Campaign and CBE students to offer free tax prep services to low income families. The program recently received support from the Bank of America Foundation. The tax prep program not only provides a valuable community service, it also gives students practical experience.

Congratulations to Juergen Jung, Assistant Professor! Dr. Jung, along with Chung Tran of the University of New South Wales, received a grant in the amount of $66,787 from the National Institutes of Health - Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality. The project title of the grant is, "Health Care Financing over the Life Cycle: A Quantitative Macroeconomic Analysis of U.S. Health Care Reform Plans."
