English Language Center (ELC)

International StudentsAbout Us

We are delighted that you are interested in the ELC program! Look at its many features and discover why you should come to Maryland and join the exciting world of the English Language Center at Towson University. The ELC offers a comprehensive English language program that will strengthen your language skills, develop your cross cultural awareness, and enrich your personal growth and development. The ELC program is for students who want to pursue university study in the United States as well as for students who want to improve their English for employment purposes. The ELC offers three programs of instruction each year; the fall and spring semesters are 15 weeks long and there is a 10 week summer session.

Located in the center of the beautiful Towson University campus, the ELC gives you many opportunities to become part of the university community. You will meet people from all over the world as you study, participate in cultural and social events, and usecampus recreational facilities. As an ELC student, you will:

  • Develop your reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills
  • Study in small classes averaging 12-15 students
  • Work with a highly qualified, caring faculty
  • Make friends through the Conversation Partners Program
  • Use the Internet and E-mail in your study
  • Learn about American life in the United States

English Language Center faculty are language teaching experts dedicated to giving you the best English language instruction possible through classes and out-of-class activities. They create a welcoming and supportive environment in which you will develop your English skills as you become an active member of our language learning community.

There is much to experience outside the ELC classroom, too! While studying at the ELC, you may want to explore the nearby cities of Baltimore, Washington, D.C., Philadelphia, and New York, visit Maryland's famous Eastern Shore, or participate in the many recreational and cultural events available at Towson University.

Become a student in the English Language Institute at Towson University! It's a wonderful place, and we look forward to seeing you soon!

Sincerely,

Lynda R. Mermell
Director
