Immigration Requirements
If you will be requiring sponsorship from Towson University as an F-1 student, you must also submit the following documents:
Copy of immigration documents: biographical page of passport, visa, I-94, and any other relevant immigration documents (i.e. current I-20, DS-2019, etc.)
Original financial statements (documenting funds for at least 1 year of tuition, fees, and living expenses). Estimated expenses can be found at the following link:http://www.towson.edu/isso/finances.asp.
If another person or agency will be sponsoring you, a Statement of Willingness needs to be included along with the original financial statement(s).
If you are transferring your F-1 record from another U.S. institution, you must also submit Towson University’s Transfer Eligibility Certificate.
If you will be bringing your dependent(s), your financial documents must include dependent expenses. You must also submit the following documentation:
Note: Students who fail to complete the above steps will not receive a Towson University Form I-20.
Important Advice: (After receiving your I-20, follow these steps)
Apply for your F-1 visa early . The waiting period can be long due to the new security procedures.
Pay the SEVIS fee; This can be paid through the mail using Form 901, the Internet, or through Western Union. Be sure to print out and KEEP a receipt as proof of payment.
Pay the visa application fee.
Make an appointment at the embassy or consulate. Most applicants must have an interview. This is an important event. Dress as if you were applying for a job. Sit up. Be polite.
Take all the required documents to your embassy or consulate visit. ( Sevis payment receipt, I-20 from Towson, original copy of financial documents, ELC letter of acceptance, receipt for payment of application fee, necessary DS forms)
Always write your name on all forms as it appears in your passport
