To support classroom instruction and give you additional language practice, the ELC provides a Language Resource Laboratory. This recently expanded and updated lab enables you to work independently on reading, listening, grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation, and writing skills. The programs used are multilevel in design allowing you to work at your own pace and current skill level to diagnose your own language strengths and weaknesses. In addition to language development programs, the resources lab also offers you:
Typing tutorials to develop your word processing skills
TOEFL and GRE study materials to prepare for university admission
Internet access for research
e-mail access in many languages
Full-time ELC students on F-1 visas come to the lab for a minimum of 2 hours per week to work on individual skills or complete class projects. They can increase reading comprehension and improve their writing ability, search the Internet for information and communicate with instructors using e-mail. It's a great place to practice all the language skills!
In addition to the computer lab, the ELC offers extra listening opportunities with CD/cassette players and individual headsets. Students can choose from a wide variety of tapes and CD's with corresponding books at all levels of proficiency. Just as in the computer lab, students work at their own pace in areas of greatest need.
