Mini Courses
The English Language Center offers short term courses for those who require specialized language training for employment or related special needs. These courses range from eight to 13 weeks and are designed to focus on a particular language skill. Au pairs, visiting professor spouses, or anyone in the community can enroll and benefit from these courses. Contact the ELC for specific course information and costs. To apply, legal residents and visitors on J, B, or H visas should complete the first two pages of the application. Financial documents are not necessary.
Language Training With a Specific Focus
TOEFL
TOEFL Preparation classes are offered on Tues. and Thurs. each semester from 6:30-9:00. It includes an Institutional TOEFL test. $ 625; $50 application fee; NO activities fees; prepares students for the paper based test as well as the new iBT.
Accent Reduction
This course will help reduce your accent and is ideal for business people, faculty, and students alike! Classes are small and custom-tailored to individual needs.
Public Presentations and Speaking Class
This 10-session class meets once a week for 3 hours and is limited in size to allow individualized attention for each participant. Learn the basics of giving a presentation while working on personal grammar and pronunciation concerns. Public speaking is difficult for most people, even English speakers, but it can be especially daunting for immigrants whose first language is not English. Giving presentations has become an integral part of many jobs, especially in the fields of business and science. Many factors can affect a presentation: organization, preparation, comprehensibility, pronunciation, even non-verbal cues. Join the English Language Center's Public Speaking class to enhance your skillsand build your confidence. Call the English Language Center for more information. New class begins in February 2009.
