Department of Electronic Media and Film
Internships and Job Opportunities
Electronic Media and Film has a very active internship program. Internships afford students the opportunity for professional experiences and networking, and are viewed as an integral part of the electronic media and film major.
Our majors have served as interns with: CNN, Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, The Discovery Channel, The Learning Channel, local television stations, feature films such as XX, Hearst radio stations such as WBAL, 98 Rock and Viacom, Maryland Film Commission, the American Film Institute, BET and Warner Brothers.
To participate in an internship, students must have junior status or above, be an EMF major, have a QPA of 2.75 and a 3.0 average in the major and have the appropriate introductory production course for the specific area of the internship.
The EMF department coordinates most of its internships through Towson University’s Career Center, which has an extensive database of internship opportunities.
Current Postings
The department maintains a list of current job opportunities, seminars and resources for EMF students. The EMF list-serve provides daily postings regarding digital media, film and audio topics including jobs, internships, guests and media festivals.
Internship Requirements
Internship eligibility requirements for Electronic Media and Film are as follows:
- Junior or senior status
- Admitted to the EMF major
- Completion of courses related to the area of internship concentration, specifically:
- EMF 140 and EMF 271 prior to any television or television broadcast journalism-related placement
- EMF 221 and EMF 267 prior to any film placement
- EMF 140 and EMF 265 prior to any radio or radio broadcast journalism-related placement
- Cumulative GPA requirement: 2.75 overall; 3.00 in the major. Waivers are considered by the department.
