Sun music critic Tim Smith reviewed Concerto for Five Percussionists and Band, the work of composer Jonathan Leshnoff, Department of Music, following its February 15 premiere at the University of Maryland’s Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center. Smith praised the performance by the United States Marine Band and five of its top-flight percussionists under Col. Timothy W. Foley, adding that Leshnoff’s concerto “represents a masterful grasp of form and function.”

Scholars: Presidential libraries keep top-shelf info out of reach

Martha Kumar, Department of Political Science, explained President Bush’s 2001 executive order allowing a former president, a representative of his, or even the current president to keep files closed. Kumar told writer Patrick McGee “the intent is to prevent a ‘chilling effect’ that might hinder aides when advising presidents.”
