TU brings its first full program to

Harford County

Program will provide dual certification in elementary education and special education

Starting next fall, TU will offer a dual certification program in elementary education and special education (EE/SE) at the Higher Education and Technology (HEAT) Center, its first full program in Harford County.

To help address the critical need for teachers—especially those with special education training—TU is offering a special one-time scholarship program to the first 16 students to be accepted and enroll in the EE/SE program at the HEAT Center.

The Towson University/Harford Community College Partnership Scholarship will grant students who enroll in the fall 2008 group $2,000 a year for two years. To be eligible for this scholarship, applicants must submit a complete application for admission by Saturday, March 15. Applications are available at www.towson.edu/discoverclick 'Apply Now', then click 'Application for Undergraduate Admissions (PDF)'. Applicants need to note “HEAT/EESE” at the top of their completed applications.

The integrated elementary education/special education program (EESE) is a screened major. All candidates who are Associate Arts in Teaching (AAT) degree completers must meet the following admission requirements:

1.  passing scores on PRAXIS I as established by MSDE

2.  a minimum of 2.75 on all prerequisite coursework required for the major

3.  the required speech and hearing screening (provided during required summer orientation)

TU also offers reduced fees to students who take classes at satellite locations beyond a 25-mile radius of campus, including the HEAT Center. Students living in Harford or Cecil county will significantly reduce their financial obligations through reduced fees as well through savings in fuel and parking costs.

Scholarship funding and a reduced fee structure will be applied to the student's account upon acceptance into the program.

Contact Stephanie Fowler, associate director of admissions, x43229, for more information on this program and how to apply for the TU/Harford Community College Partnership Scholarship.
