5 questions for … Joe Oster

Explore all university events in one place

Joe Oster, associate vice president for auxiliary services, wants to raise awareness of TU’s online master calendar, introduced earlier this month. The calendar is part of a 2010 initiative to establish centralized scheduling and events listing for the university.

Where can I find the master calendar?

Go to the TU website and click on the Calendars link on the top menu.

How does it work?
What you see on the current calendar is information that Events and Conference Services has entered into its software for general reservations of campus space. Right now only a few people in Enrollment Services and in Event and Conference Services are authorized to enter information onto the calendar. Soon we will be training additional users in recreational sports, athletics and fine arts.

How can I post my events to the master calendar?

When you make a facility reservation in person or online, you will be asked if you want your event posted to the Web. If you select “yes,” the person taking your reservation will code your event to the appropriate category and it will be available for all to view. You can even write a brief description of your event for posting. A link to the campus reservation form is located on the left side of the calendar page.

How do you choose what appears on What’s Up!, the default page?
What’s Up! features fine arts performances, home athletic events and major public events or key campus events. We’re still working on defining the criteria for this category, but we don’t want the default page to become too cumbersome with a huge amount of campus events. Check out the Other section if you want to see everything posted to the calendar.

Can people send you feedback?

Absolutely. The campus calendar is new and evolving, so feedback will help us make it as useful as possible to the campus. Send comments and questions to reservation@towson.edu. Someone from Event and Conference Services will reply to your questions quickly.
