"He gets his point across in a variety of ways, using more than one language," she said.

Trendy diets make their way into class

Jack Osman, Department of Health Science, was among the academics who discussed popular diets with contributing writer Sarah Cavill. When asked if he had noticed increased interest in nutrition because of Atkins and other similar diets, he responded, "Absolutely! My courses close early." He said he also noticed an increased interest from men during the last decade.

Ah Hong, Department of Music, was among the café habitués Stephanie Shapiro interviewed at Evergreen, a North Baltimore coffeehouse that encourages laptop regulars with free wireless service and bottomless cups of coffee. Shapiro noted that Hong doesn't retreat from café culture while online. "I love the music, the window and being around people who don't know me and are not asking about work, and I have my coffee," she said.
