DECO event showcases solutions for business and government needs

By Stuart Zang

DECO and the College of Graduate Studies and Research (CGSR) are sponsoring the first Towson University Showcase of Services, which will include more than 20 exhibitors and five project presentations.

Scheduled for this afternoon between 1 and 3 p.m. at Auburn House Pavillion, the event is free and open to the public. It is geared toward business leaders, local/state government officials and reporters interested in learning about applied research solutions from more than 20 TU-based centers, institutes, units and faculty projects. A complete list of exhibitors can be found here.

Between 1:30 and 2:30 p.m, TU faculty and staff will deliver presentations on successful projects being implemented throughout Maryland, including:

  • Digital Media Classrooms and E-Training
  • Gentrification Dilemmas in Urban Baltimore
  • Radio Accessibility to Vulnerable Populations
  • Mapping and GIS in Emergency Management
  • Interactive Websites for Maryland Agencies

"TU faculty not only contribute to knowledge in their fields," says Chao Lu, acting dean for the College of Graduate Studies and Research. "Their research can benefit the public on a day-to-day basis. TU's Showcase of Services will make the larger community aware of our work, and introduce our faculty and staff to clients who can benefit by their work."

Dyan Brasington, vice president for economic and community outreach, agrees. "Our ability to execute applied research projects that provide solutions toward real world problems puts TU in a unique position to be a valued resource for both Maryland business and government," says Brasington. "The showcase is the first time DECO and CGSR have worked together to present in one place and at one time the wide variety of applied research TU faculty and staff are doing today."
