Economic Anxiety Growing in America; Gas Prices Continue to Climb

Saadia Van Winkle spoke to George Georgiou, Department of Economics, for two stories about rising prices in gas and consumer goods. "When you add speculation to the falling price of the dollar and the continued demand for oil worldwide," Georgiou said, "there's more pressure on the upside [that gas prices will continue to climb] than the downside at the present time."
First group of Towson nursing students at USM-Hagerstown to graduate

The Herald-Mail reported on the May 20 graduation of the first group of 13 students to complete TU's nursing program at the University System of Maryland at Hagerstown. Jacquelyn Jordan, Department of Nursing chairperson, commended the students on their perseverance. "They never gave up," she said. "They can tell everyone, 'We were the first ones, we laid the path for everyone to follow.'"
Gas costs push commuters to park and pedal

Reporter Marisol Bello spoke with TU sophomore Jennifer Tanko, of Lutherville, Md., for an article about how commuters are turning to bicycles as gas prices continue to reach record highs. Tanko recently bought a $70 used bike to commute to TU, to cut the $50-a-week expense to fill the tank on her minivan. "I'm trying to wean myself off oil dependency," she said. "It's easier than I thought, though I've gotten yelled at to get on the sidewalk."
