PeopleSoft Financials to replace FRS on July 1

TU is replacing its antiquated financial records management application with a state-of-the-art, Web-based software application. Sandy Mryncza (pronounced Mar-en-za), project manager for OTS’ PeopleSoft Financials team, says training for PeopleSoft Financials is now available online and in the classroom.

What is the PeopleSoft Financials application implementation?

PeopleSoft is a state-of-the-art, Web-based financial management software application. It’s an integrated suite of applications that help users manage budget, procurement, general ledger and accounts payable functions. TU has installed and configured this enterprise system to meet our particular business process needs.

Why is this new system being implemented?

PeopleSoft Financials will replace FRS, an antiquated financial records management application we’ve been using for about 25 years. FRS is old technology, with the software no longer supported and hardware support being phased out by the computer industry.

Who will be affected by the change to PeopleSoft Financials?

All current FRS users will be impacted, as well as people who simply fill out forms within their departments for administrative concerns such as new hires, travel expenses, payroll forms and purchasing budgets. The new system will go live on July 1, with the start of the 2009 financial fiscal year. Numbers that people have used to submit information on various forms are changing. It will be an entirely new way of doing financial paperwork.

Is training available?

There are many options available, both live and online. We’ve already started inviting people to training classes—a schedule is posted on the OTS training workshop Web page. Classes started last week and run through August. These sessions will be recorded and posted online, along with supporting documentation. We highly recommend users take the training classes to which they were invited, but we will also provide online tutorials—the links are at the bottom of TU’s PeopleSoft Financials Web page.
