Daring students to reach higher

The Sun, July 12

Metro reporter Kelly Brewington covered the fifth annual Maryland Hispanic Symposium, a TU workshop sponsored by the Hispanic College Fund. The program invites students to spend four nights on the TU campus to get a feel for college life. Daylong workshops offer advice in creafting a college application essay, applying for financial aid and winning scholarships.

UMBC Lifts Israel Travel Ban

Baltimore Jewish Times , July 11

Staff reporter Rochelle Eisenberg examined how study abroad programs at area universities deal with the State Department's official warning against traveling to Israel. Liz Shearer, acting director of TU's Study Abroad Office, said her office discusses the travel warning for Israel with students when advising them, makes sure they are aware there are additional risks in going to that country, and requires them to sign a waiver acknowledging those risks.

Towson U. hits $30M mark in capital campaign

Baltimore Business Journal, July 10

Higher Education reporter Sue Schultz reported that TU surpassed the $30 million mark on its way to meeting a $50 million capital campaign goal by 2011. Molly Shock, chairwoman of the campaign, said TU raised nearly $6.36 million toward the goal this year. TU's endowment fund will provide nearly $1 million in scholarships, assistance and program support over the next year.
