Sports reporter Ken Murray spoke with Tigers football coach Gordy Combs about the tradition of providing walk-ons opportunities to play football. Murray profiled three former walk-ons who paid their way into TU in search of opportunity, beat the odds and made the team—wide receiver Demetrius Harrison, free safety Kenny Scott and defensive end Richard Lee.

Money & Business section senior editor Justin Ewers cited a new study in the Journal of Business Venturing by Bharat Jain, Department of Finance, and Filiz Tabak, Department of Management, that found that founders with "functional backgrounds" such as marketing are much more likely to continue as CEO than those with skills focused on efficiency, such as engineering.

General assignment reporter Lowell Melser spoke with Jeffrey Michael, Department of Economics, about causes of record-high oil prices. "The weakening dollar makes all imports, including oil, more expensive," Michael said. "Prices are increasing more here [in the United States] than in Europe.
