George C. Georgiou, Economics, was the main speaker at the Turnaround Management Association Annual Economic Conference, Bethesda, Md., on May 21. The presentation topic was "Underlying Economic Imbalance Threaten Economic Recovery."

David Bergman, English, wrote a poem, "Death and the Young Man," which has been set to music by Ned Rorem as one of his Songs for Susan, written for the mezzo-soprano Susan Graham. Gary Shockey, Foreign Languages (German), delivered a paper at the 44th International Congress on Medieval Studies, Kalamazoo, Michigan, on 10 May 2009 entitled "'Und tet im Gotes lere kunt': Barlaam, Josaphat, and the Traditions of Old Testament Stories in Fourteenth-Century Passion Plays, with Emphasis on Die Erloesung."
