TU shares responses for 'Great Colleges to Work for' program
The Chronicle of Higher Education and ModernThink LLC, created "The Great Colleges to Work For" program to recognize higher education institutions that have created exceptional work environments, as well as to share benchmarking data about trends in compensation, benefits and other employment issues.
The program is higher education's version of the popular Fortune magazine survey, with one key difference: It does not rank institutions in one big list.
The process consists of two online surveys: the ModernThink Institution Questionnaire© (IQ) completed by one or more management representatives at each institution, and the ModernThink Higher Education Insight Survey© (Climate/Engagement assessment) completed by a random sample of full-time faculty members, administrators and professional support staff at each institution. Results from both of these surveys are used in the assessment process which includes analysis of demographic data and workplace policies at each of the participating institutions.
About 599 TU faculty/staff were randomly selected by ModernThink; 272 responded to the online survey. The document below titled TU Topline Survey Results cites specific areas of strength and/or weakness as compared to institutions of TU's size and Carnegie classification.
The campus reported rather robustly (45 percent response rate) and positively, although TU did not make the program's “honor roll.”
Marina Cooper, assistant to the president for external relations and communications, says the program was "a great opportunity for Towson University to take inventory of what we offer employees, including where we excel and where we can improve.
"We plan to participate again—and be recognized—this year."
