Jonathan Leshnoff, Music, composed Six Miniatures for Violin and Percussion last year for the VERGE Ensemble.The ensemble performed the work on Sept. 13 (with an introduction by the composer) at the Corcoran Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C. Jack Fruchtman, Political Science, delivered a paper on Sept. 12 at the Reform Club of London (U.K.) during a conference devoted to the theme of “Transatlantic Revolutionaries: Jefferson and Paine in America, Britain, and France.” The title of his essay was “Jefferson, Paine, and Hamilton: Constitutionalism and the Future American Economy.”

Fisher College of Science and Mathematics

Harald Beck, Biological Sciences, coauthored a talk titled “Range wide decline in the conservation status of white-lipped peccary and lowland tapir: Implications for ecosystem functions in Latin America.” He presented at the 23rd Society for Conservation Biology and the Institute of Zoology at the Chinese Academy of Sciences held in Beijing, July 11-16.

Tim Brunker, Chemistry, and undergraduate student Krista Taylor attended the American Chemical Society National Meeting in Washington, D.C., Aug. 16-20. They presented a poster in the Undergraduate Research Symposium titled “Synthesis of Chiral Multidentate Aminosulfoxide Ligands and Investigation of their Coordination Properties.”
