Staff Kudos Academic Affairs Karen Schafer '68, College of Education, received the Staff Alumni Volunteer Service Award on October 7. The award honors a member of the staff who works diligently toward the alumni effort and provides exemplary service to the university community in general. Schafer directs the college's Center for Professional Practice. Administration and Finance Robert B. Cave, OTS, received an Award of Excellence in the fall 2008 ACM SIGUCCS (Association of Computing Machinery Special Interest Group) CommAwards Category 3a: Printed How-to Guides for self-help documents on Outlook Web Access. University Advancement Kathy Malanowski, Design Center, won an American Graphic Design Award from Graphic Design USA for Apply Yourself at TU. Eleni Swengler, Design Center, won an American Graphic Design Award from Graphic Design USA for TU's 2008 Student Research Expo poster. Stephen B. Yasko, general manager, WTMD 89.7, reports that the City Paper named WTMD "Best Radio Station for Music" and "Best Local Internet Radio Station for Music" in its Best of Baltimore poll. Office of the President Student Affairs Bryan Harris, director, Campus Recreation Services, has been elected president-elect of the National Intramural-Recreational Sports Association (NIRSA). He will serve a three-year term, initially as president-elect, then president, and finally as past-president. James Spivack, director, Counseling Center, and special assistant to the vice president, will receive a Lifetime Achievment Award from the Association of University and College Counseling Center Directors (AUCCCD) on October 20. The award is granted annually to counseling center directors for their leadership accomplishments and significant contributions made to college and university counseling center work.
