Towson University honored as a ‘best neighbor’ university
TU acknowledged in survey of civically engaged colleges and universities
Towson University was named to the honor roll of “Saviors of Our Cities: A Survey of Best College and University Civic Partnerships,” in a presentation at the 15th annual conference of the Coalition of Urban and Metropolitan Universities (CUMU) held earlier this month in Philadelphia.
The report, conducted by Westfield State College president Evan Dobelle, surveyed institutions for civic engagement, which Dobelle defined as “the positive economic, social and cultural impact that institutions of higher education have upon the cities in which they reside.” The results demonstrate a broad range of engagement initiatives across the United States, efforts which Dobelle said were “vital to metropolitan areas across the nation.”
The findings highlight the unique and innovative means by which concerned and committed colleges and universities, such as TU, have been cultivating beneficial and lasting relationships with the communities in which they reside.
