College of Fine Arts and Communication

Tom Casciero, Theatre, was invited to teach at the National University of Costa Rica in July. He taught Laban Movement for Actors, Linklater and Lessac voice work, and Impulse Improvisation as a source of choreography for advance students in the dance department.

Jim McFalls, Music, will be featured as a co-headliner at the Cape May Jazz Festival on November 8, playing with--officially--The Denis DiBlasio Quintet featuring Jim McFalls.

Carl B. Schmidt, Music, will present a paper, "The Unknown Randall Thompson: Honkeytonk Tunesmith, Broadway Ivory-Tickler," on November 8 at the national meeting of the American Musicological Society in Nashville, Tenn.

College of Health Professions

Donna Wagner, Health Sciences, is quoted in an article, "The Graying Workforce: Anything but Retiring," in Vitality magazine.

College of Liberal Arts

Geoffrey Becker, English, won the University  of Georgia Press’s 2008 Flannery O’Connor Prize for Short Fiction. Authors of winning manuscripts receive a cash award of $1,000, and their collections are subsequently published by the press under a standard book contract.

Paul Douglas, English, delivered a paper, "Confronting French Deficiencies: Jacolliot's Travels" at the annual conference of the Society for the Study of French History at Aberystwyth University, Wales,  in July. He gave another presentation, "The Pursuit of Perfection at Three Harmonist Villages," at the annual conference of the Communal Studies Association in Estero, Fla., on October 3.

H. George Hahn, English, is the author of a new book, The Ocean Bards: British Poetry and the War at Sea, 1793-1815, Frankfort: Peter Lang, 2008. The Ocean Bards is Volume 125 of the Britannia Texts in English series, edited by Jürgen Klein.

College of Business and Economics

Matthew Chambers, Economics, D.E. Schlagenahauf, and C. Garriga have had their peer-reviewed article, "Mortgage Innovation, Mortgage Choice, and Housing Decisions," accepted for publication in Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis Review.

Rodney Stump, Marketing and e-Business, and C. Chelariu have had their peer-reviewed article, "A Study of Work-Family Conflict and the Contingent Effect of Self-Efficacy of Retail Salespeople in a Transitional Economy," accepted for publication in European Journal of Marketing.
