Middle Grades Partnership - Civitas / Towson Project

In June 2010 Towson University began its fifth year as a recipient of a partnership grant from the Middle Grades Partnership (MGP) and its second year as the partner of Baltimore Civitas School (Baltimore City Public School System). Among the nine MGP projects that partner local independent schools with City public schools, Towson's is unique: It is the only MGP project in which a university is directly involved as a partner-school. MGP's goal is to prepare more Baltimore City public school students to take rigorous mathematics courses in high school and beyond.

As an MGP partner, the Department of Mathematics at Towson University hosts and directs a five-week summer program on the Towson University campus for up to 40 selected students from Civitas. This math-focused program supports promising rising 7th and 8th graders in their academic endeavors by offering an enrichment program that includes mathematics, language arts, chess, and extra curricular activities such as strategy games and puzzles, Origami, "Research, Rhythm, and Rap," rock climbing, and many other offerings.
