Our recipient of the Excellence in Scholarship Award has established a very strong research record since arriving at Towson University not too long ago. This award was based on a record which includes the publication of 14 journal articles, 3 book chapters and 23 conference papers in the last three years. The awardee has received 6 competitive research grants totaling nearly $770,000 for which he is the PI and then an additional 3 grants totaling over $2.2 million where he is a co-PI. He has given numerous invited talks at both national and international meetings.
He also has served as a Program committee member for 39 international conferences and workshops and is currently a guest Editor for a special issue of an international journal. Both of these also speak to how he is viewed outside of Towson University amongst his peers.
Quoting from a nomination letter, the awardee has “not only significantly contributed to the field…, but also raised the profile of Towson University.”
Our recipient’s scholarly excellence also enriches the learning experiences of our students, as he has integrated research into his classes and serves or has served as an outstanding mentor to over 20 doctoral and MS students.
The recipient received a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Nanjing University of Technology and an M.S. in Electrical Engineering from Tong Ji University in China and then earned his Ph.D. in Computer Engineering from Texas A&M University. He then came to Towson in 2009.
It is a great pleasure to introduce our 2012 recipient of the Excellence in Scholarship Award, Dr. Wei Yu from the Department of Computer and Information Sciences.
