POST-BACCALAUREATE PREMEDICAL/PREDENTAL PROGRAM

Student Opportunities

Premedical/Predental Society

The student-run Premedical/Predental Society is open to all post-baccalaureate students.  The society arranges for speakers and for site visits to professional schools.

Advising

The Premedical/Predental Committee at Towson University comprises seven faculty members from the departments of biology, chemistry, physics and psychology, and the dean of the Jess and Mildred Fisher College of Science and Mathematics.  This committee develops and administers the program in conjunction with the Office for Non-Traditional Undergraduate Programs.  Upon admission, post baccalaureate students are assigned an adviser from the committee.  This provides the opportunity for individual, academic counseling by professors knowledgeable about preparing for medical school and dental school.  During the academic year, the committee also sponsors informational programs. Medical and dental school deans, former students and practicing members of the professional community are invited to address undergraduate and post baccalaureate students.

At the end of the spring semester, the Premedical/Predental Committee is available to review the credentials of students who are preparing applications for medical or dental school. Recommendations are solicited from science faculty, transcripts and MCAT or DAT scores are reviewed, and personal interviews are conducted.  Based on this information, a committee letter of recommendation is formulated and sent, at the student's direction, to the school(s) where the student has applied for admission.

Financial Aid

Students in the Post-Baccalaureate Premedical/Predental Program may apply for loans under the William D. Ford Federal Direct Loan Program.  The maximum annual interest subsidized loan is $5,500. Students who meet the Federal Title IV definition of self supporting may borrow an additional $5,000 which must be unsubsidized.  Applications and additional information on the Direct Loan Program may be obtained from the university's Office of Financial Aid, 410-830-2061.
