Towson University is a comprehensive university, which provides the opportunity for all students to obtain a liberal education and to gain knowledge and skills applicable to specific career choices. A minimum of 120 credit hours is required for graduation. This includes a series of General Education (GenEd) requirements and completion of a major (approximately 36 credit hours) in one academic discipline. Most Pre-Medical and Pre-Dental students major in biology, chemistry or physics. However, other majors may be selected if the basic science requirements for admission to a professional school are met. These basic requirements are usually at least eight credit hours in general chemistry, organic chemistry, physics and biology. Some medical schools also require calculus.
The Department of Biological Sciences has a very informative document titled Advice and Guidelines for TU Pre-Medical Students.
