Academic Advising For Geography and Environmental Planning Majors
Advising is an important part of students’ university experiences and helps them to clarify their educational and professional goals. It is not simply helping students pick courses for an upcoming semester, although this certainly is a component of the processes. Advising helps students look past a list courses for next semester to consider learning opportunities beyond the “walls” of the university, as well as to explore employment options and graduate study.
Academic advising is not just helpful to students,it is required! Before students register for courses next semester, they must meet with their academic advisors. All geography majors are assigned to academic advisors who will assist them in meeting their general education and major requirements. Moreover, majors will be advised about study away (international and national), service learning, internships, and careers.
Geography majors can log onto PeopleSoft to find out to which advisors they are assigned. If you have not been assigned an academic advisor, please contact the department chair or the administrative assistant immediately and we will rectify the oversight.
