Description: COLUMBIA Technologies is currently seeking a high-energy Mapping and Visualization Assistant to provide support in processing environmental geo-spatial data into a comprehensive visualization package. This information will enable our clients to move forward in the decision making process for projects taking place within North America as well as overseas. The candidate(s) should be pursuing or have completed a degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Environmental Sciences or a closely related field.
Specifically, this individual will utilize KML (Keyhole Markup Language) to express geographic annotation and visualization within Internet-based, two-dimensional maps and three-dimensional Earth browsers. Duties will include: the acquisition,
management, and documentation of data; operating graphic visualization software, collaboration with visualizations manager to understand science topics in order to output the appropriate visual renderings of data; browse, subset, and perform basic statistical analyses on large array data files; develop map-based analyses for clients; among other mapping and visualization related responsibilities.
Primary Skills:
* Strong data management and data analysis skills
* Internal motivation, with the ability to take responsibility for your tasks when working either autonomously or collaboratively
* Willingness to work under deadline
* A strong sense of ethics and responsibility for completing meaningful work to the highest standard
Mapping and Visualization Assistant should possess proficiency and experience in the following (or ability to learn very quickly):
* ArcGIS, AutoCAD, Google Earth (or similar mapping programs)
* Surfer, EVS, Rockworks (or similar 3D mapping programs)
* KML (Keyhole Markup Language)
* Microsoft Office Suite (including Excel, Access, and Word)

Toole Design Group is an exciting and growing consulting firm with a national reputation for excellence in transportation planning and engineering. We are currently recruiting a GIS Intern for our Hyattsville, MD office. Our work includes a wide variety of projects at the local, state and national level -- including roadway, trail, bikeway and pedestrian facility design; expert consultation with State DOT's on non-motorized transportation issues, federal research, and a wide variety of master planning projects for local and regional governments throughout the U.S.
The successful candidate will be a current student or recent graduate in Geography or Computer Science. The candiate should have solid ArcGIS skills including experience with analysis, data structure/management, and cartography. Any experience with scripting/programming or database systems is a big plus. General IT skills (maintaining hardware, installing software, etc) are also beneficial.
This is a chance to work with a dynamic team of co-workers on a variety of exciting projects. Our office is located in Hyattsville, MD, within walking distance to the Metrorail Green Line.
