The Towson University undergraduate Health Care Management (HCMN) program is a proud member of the Association of University Programs in Health Administration (AUPHA). AUPHA is a global network of colleges, universities, faculty, individuals and organizations dedicated to improving health by promoting excellence in healthcare management education.
AUPHA sets the educational standards for the Health Care Management program, which undergoes a certification process every six years. In Fall 2008, the Board of Directors of AUPHA approved full certification of Towson University's Health Care Management undergraduate program until 2014.
The amount of change in the delivery and structure of health care in the United States is paralleled only with the change in the roles of professionals (clinical and nonclinical) who manage the many types of health service organizations that exist today. Entry to midlevel employment opportunities await university graduates who successfully complete a program that integrates knowledge of behavioral, biomedical and social factors impacting individual and population health. In addition, students with an understanding of general business and health services marketing concepts and principles have an even greater advantage in the workplace.

The Health Care Management Program will prepare students for entry level career and management positions in a diverse range of complex and fast changing healthcare, long-term care, and health service organizations. Graduates will have a firm foundation in ethical and legal precepts, technical and analytical skills and leadership abilities in order to actively address organizational problems to enhance access, quality and cost effectiveness of health services.

Goal 1: Developing an understanding of behavioral, biomedical and social factors that impact
individual and population health in the U.S.;
In written and verbal forms, demonstrates an in-depth understanding of retrospective and prospective payment structures and their relationship to the provision of health and medical services in the U.S.
Demonstrates an ability to locate information on the health care needs of U.S. population in general, as well as in reference to specific populations.
Demonstrates an ability to evaluate a health care organization’s ability to provide health and medical care services to a specific population in terms of access and availability of services
Goal 2: Developing an understanding of general business and marketing concepts and principles
as well as the distinct organizational characteristics that impact the delivery of health services
in the U.S.;
Demonstrates an ability to synthesize theoretical perspectives on managing complex, formal organizations (i.e., hospitals, health maintenance organizations, etc.).
Using an assigned case study, demonstrates an ability to apply basic problem solving skills along with health care financial management knowledge to develop recommendations related to the financial issue(s) confronted by a health care organization.
Using an assigned case study, demonstrates an ability to apply knowledge of health care marketing to propose a marketing plan for a health services organization.
Goal 3: Acquiring a knowledge of the political and regulatory factors that impact health service
