Osher Lifelong Learning Institute

 

The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (formerly the Auburn Society) offers picture of individual attending a lectureadults age 50 and older opportunities for continued learning, along with programs and activities for social and cultural enrichment. The basic concept of the Institute is that learning is a lifelong process and is enhanced in a congenial atmosphere with like-minded individuals.

The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute is a membership organization with programs and activities planned and implemented by staff and member volunteers through a committee structure. There are no educational prerequisites for membership.

The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute is part of TU's Division of Economic and Community Outreach. In addition to its on-campus program, the institute offers courses at area retirement communities and periodic lectures and a book club at the Towson branch of the Baltimore County Public Library. Golden ID Program

 

Through the Golden ID Tuition Waiver Program, Towson University and other University System of Maryland institutions extend special privileges to senior citizens, including tuition waiver, use of library, recreational facilities, and discounts on parking permits. To be accepted in the Golden ID Program, an applicant must be:

  • At least 60 years of age (proof required)

  • A legal resident of the state of Maryland (one-year minimum residency required)

  • Not engaged in gainful employment for more than 20 hours per week

  • One whose chief income is derived from retirement benefits

Wellness Center

The TU Wellness Center, located in the Administration Building on campus, is a fully equipped fitness facility with state-of-the-art cardiovascular and strength training equipment. Supported by TU's College of Health Professions and The Heart Institute at St. Joseph Medical Center, the Wellness Center offers a range of programs and services designed to promote health and wellness. These include a faculty/staff wellness program and LIFEWORx, a comprehensive cardiac rehabilitation and heart disease prevention program, open to anyone in the community who qualifies for entry. Participant entry into LIFEWORx requires physician referral and receipt of relevant medical information.
