Raoul HausmannRaoul Hausmann was born in Vienna, Italy on July 12, 1886. He dedicated his life to his art, which usually carried a very clear message. However, like many other Dadaists, he dabbled in multiple art mediums. Hausmann was a painter, sculpter and a writer who had an, "ethical and aesthetic agitation that shook the avant-garde movement in the 20s and 30s, according to author Timothy Benson. He was one of Berlin's founders of dada, called the "Dada-sopher." In addition to his reputation, he was active in the movement as the editor of Berlin's "Der Dada," a magazine dedicated to the movement. In 1924, Hausmann wrote an essay called "Mode [fashion]," in which he dictated his idea of the perfect style. He said that clothing should be designed with an interest in freedom and movement and with respects to personal hygene. This was looked at as another Dada satire since it was a reference to middle class Berlin's "clodhoppers and beer bellies." Hausmann spent much of his life fighting for his beliefs. He died in Limoges, France on February 1, 1971.
