The Slide Projection Designer Process

Erik Trester, Slide Projection Designer

Trester's definition of slide projection designer : "Designs the way in which projections are used in the show, and acts as projection technician during the production."

The use of projection plays a more crucial role then it does in the average show says Trester. Images of John Heartfield's work serve as the context in which the audience comes to know the artist.  Trester says, "It would be virtually impossible to explain Heartfield's life and work without clearly showing the audience the distinct nature of his photomontage."

Trester uses Heartfield's original works to create the slides for the production, thse slides become the stage backdrop.  The production will use four different projectors, two off to the side of the set and two focused directly on the center of the stage.  Trester is responsible for configuring the projection system and making sure it works during the production.

Trester says, "Projection can be a bit tricky and it is important that a member of the team focuses specifically on the technical considerations required to use projection effectively."  Trester believes effective communication and collaboration with the other members of the design team helps to ensure that the projection design will not need to be compromised.
