In the Prologue to Act III, the actor playing Brecht enters with a red necktie, a navy blazer and a pillow under his shirt, and begins to address the audience as if he was the former senator Joseph McCarthy. The actor playing Dietrich stands behind him with a large American flag, which she displays prominently across herself, revealing only the top of her blond wig, and her long bare legs. This strange and farcical scene turns into the bizarre as the actor playing McCarthy "breaks character" and reveals to the audience that he is, in fact, Brecht, and reminds the audience again that they are witnessing a performance of Epic Theatre.
