Dr. Mettler joined the History Department in 2010. She earned her PhD from the University of Iowa for her dissertation entitled, “Shibui: Japan Chic and Post World War II American Modernism.” Dr. Mettler’s research focuses on the U.S. and the World in the 20th century, particularly cultural and diplomatic history and U.S. international cultural relations. She is currently writing a monograph entitled: Shibui: Middlebrow America’s Fascination with Japan in the Post World War II Era.
