Students who plan to major in history secondary education should meet with Dr. Jeff Passe, the chair of the secondary education department, in addition to their history department advisor. Dr. Passe can provide detailed information regarding the Secondary Education program. Students may meet with him even before they have been accepted into the Secondary Education program.

In order to be accepted into the History Secondary Education program, a student must have a GPA of at least 2.75. Not all students who apply to the History-Secondary Education program are accepted into the program.

Students who want to teach social sciences at the middle-school level should consider enrolling in the Secondary Education-Middle School major, in which they would be certified to teach two of these subjects at the middle-school level: English, Math, Science, and Social Studies.

Students will not be allowed to student teach until they have completed all of the coursework in history and the other social sciences and have received a grade of at least C in all of those courses.
