December
An Evening with Matt Pless
Thursday, December 4, 3009; Richmond Hall, Room 214 (Richmond Commons)
Matt Pless is a singer-songwriter who is a scholar and poet first and foremost and a performer and musician second. Matt used to open for acts such as Fallout Boy and Maroon 5 with his punk band 3 Prong Outlet. In recent years Matt has shifted to a folk sound inspired by the likes of Lennon/McCartney and Bob Dylan. Matt’s songs are poetic, witty, and at times political he captures the essence of what it means to be a generation Xer and college age person in this turbulent era. Matt will perform his songs then show his music video for “When the Helmets Hit the Ground” on the projection screen after which faculty and students will be able to discuss his approach to lyric and the semiotic functions of his use of imagery.“The Situationists,” a music collective of socially aware honors college students fronted by singer/songwriter Amanda Kinslow will open the show. The band is grounded in French intellectual thought and poetic theories of student resistance and social change. Hope to see you there.
