Integrated Homeland Security Management Program
In
the post 9/11 climate, homeland security management has become not
only a critical need of the region and the entire nation, but also
an emerging discipline. New offices and new emphases have been created
in agencies of the local, state, and federal governments, and in
business and industry, to maintain a vigilant security and a readiness
to respond to emergency situations. In particular, the areas of
information assurance and emergency health response have received
special emphasis. Personnel to operate these programs are a critical
workforce need.
The master’s degree program in Integrated Homeland Security
Management meets the region’s needs by providing such personnel.
Students will graduate with expertise in research, development,
and analysis of security strategies; familiarity with critical infrastructures
and their interrelationships; expertise in team leadership and cooperative
planning; and specialty skills in information assurance, health
preparedness, or security policy issues.
The program is the first Towson University graduate program to be
taught entirely online. This adds additional flexibility for working
students, allowing them to access lectures and reading materials
at the times most convenient to their schedules.
Towson University has the strengths in the key areas of health
science and information assurance, as well as the liberal arts foundation,
to offer a broad, multidisciplinary program. Towson also has been
designated as a National Center of Academic Excellence in Information
Assurance Education by the National Security Agency and the Department
of Homeland Security.
Students completing the program will:
- have a broad-based knowledge of homeland security issues, policies
that affect them, and procedures used in implementing strategies
- develop effective and innovative strategies for rapid, creative
responses to crisis situations using research skills and knowledge
of homeland security issues, policies, and procedures (obtain
a strong knowledge base, research skills, and creativity to respond
in a timely way to new and unexpected situations with skill and
wisdom).
- demonstrate leadership in working collaboratively with others
in the preparation for, protection against, and response to national
and/or local crises based on a comprehensive knowledge of systems
and research in homeland security and related areas.
