Integrated Homeland Security Management
Program Director's Message
Since
Sept. 11, 2001, the country has realized that we need to do a better
job of defending the homeland against terrorist attacks and natural
disasters alike. The government has reorganized to create the Department
of Homeland Security. State and City governments are also
recognizing the need to explicitly deal with this issue and have
set up homeland security and emergency preparedness offices. Many
private companies are also engaged in offering security services.
Consequently, there is an emerging need for skilled and talented
personnel who are qualified in this area. While there are existing
programs that focus on specific areas, there aren't very many programs
that capture the interdisciplinary skills needed.
Towson University's new Master of Science degree in
Integrated Homeland Security Management is one of the few
programs that captures the interdisciplinary flavor of this
still nascent field. The interdisciplinary program also offers a
Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in Security Assessment and
Management. The integrated nature of the program ensures that
graduates are trained to work collaboratively and pull together
diverse skills and teams in ensuring the objective of securing
the homeland.
This program was developed with critical input from
professionals working in such fields as public health,
information security, homeland security. This program was thus
developed from the ground-up and incorporates the critical
requirements sought by professionals in the area. We are proud
to present this program to you and we believe that these
credentials would tremendously improve your marketability in
this burgeoning area.
We welcome you to journey with us to a safer community,
society and Nation.
