Conference Information/Registration
“Members are encouraged to organize sessions and meetings under the auspices of the SPG.”
This notice prompted SPG members Gary Backhaus and John Murungi to co-organize a SPG conference. Due to the success of that first conference,
Backhaus and Murungi have created what has now become an annual tradition.
The First Annual International Conference of Philosophy and Geography at Towson University was held April 30 – May 1, 1999.
The Society for Philosophy and Geography sponsored the annual conference up
to 2003.
The Sixth Annual International Conference was held under the auspices of the The Geophilia Society.
Beginning in 2005, the International Association for
the Study of Environment, Space, and Place co-sponsored the annual conferences.
A flexible, general theme guides our reflections while engaged in the preparation of our papers, panels, and media presentations. Conferences remain open to all topics related to
interdisciplinary research concerning
environment, space, and place.
