Frank Bonsal III has over twenty-five years' experience advancing efficacy, innovation and productivity in and around education and the knowledge economy. As the first Director of Entrepreneurship at Towson University, venture capital and angel investor, Frank has helped hundreds of entrepreneurs reach for their dreams. His investment track record includes over 25 education companies, 12 of which have been realized, and whose solutions have impacted millions.
Frank is a former General Partner of New Markets Venture Partners, where he was co-founder of a nationally unique, mission-driven venture fund wholly dedicated to education technology investing. Frank's board service included such companies as BetterLesson, Kickboard, Moodlerooms (acquired by Blackboard), Questar Assessment, PresenceLearning, Starfish Retention Solutions (acquired by Hobsons), and Think Through Learning. He remains an independent board director of Calvert Education and Three Ring.
For 15 years leading up to the private capital pathway, Frank served as teacher, advisor, coach, and administrator to students in middle and high schools in New England, the Southeast, and the Mid-Atlantic. Frank serves or has served numerous education nonprofits, currently as Chairman of The Center for Education Reform and Trustee of Gilman School, as well as on numerous national and regional panels and committees on the topic of education innovation, investment and productivity. Frank has a M.Ed. and M.B.A. from Vanderbilt University and a B.A. with honors from the University of New Hampshire.
