Frank Bonsal III has over twenty-five years experience advancing efficacy, innovation and productivity in and around education and the knowledge economy. As the first Director of Entrepreneurship at Towson University, co-founder of EdTech Maryland, venture capital and angel investor, Frank has helped hundreds of entrepreneurs reach for their dreams. His investment track record includes over 25 education companies, 11 of which have been realized, and whose solutions have impacted millions.
Frank is a Special Advisor with New Markets Venture Partners, which he joined in 2007 and where his focus is on early stage investments in education technology and service companies. On behalf of New Markets, Frank is currently the Board Director at Calvert Education and Board Observer at Starfish Retention Solutions. His previous board roles include BetterLesson, Moodlerooms, Questar Assessment, and Think Through Learning.
For 15 years leading up to the private capital pathway, Frank served as teacher, advisor, coach, and administrator to students in middle and high schools. Frank serves several Mid-Atlantic-based education nonprofit, such as The Center for Education Reform and Gilman School, and is a member of the President's Advisory Council at Stevenson University. He has served on numerous national and regional panels and committees on the topic of education innovation, investment and productivity and is a former President of the Alumni Board of Peabody College, Vanderbilt University. Frank has a M.Ed. and M.B.A. from Vanderbilt University and a B.A. with honors from the University of New Hampshire.
