What is GIS?

A Geographic Information System, or GIS, is computer based technology that captures, manages, analyzes, and displays spatial (location) information through interactive maps. As an information system that leverages geographic data, GIS can help you answer questions, solve problems, and plan for the future by enabling you to visualize your data in layers, to easily see relationships, patterns, and trends.
