Melanie Bruce, GISP, joined CGIS in 2008 as a GIS Specialist III. She performs advanced level spatial database design and implementation tasks, devises technical methodologies for data interoperability and extract-transform-load processes, and performs programming and IT tasks that support application development and maintenance. She has a solid understanding of the database management system and the integration of programs, data, and GIS services in a robust GIS implementation. Her technical experience includes familiarity with the project management lifecycle; SQL, stored procedures, and triggers; web mapping applications with HTML, CSS, and Javascript; and server side programming for the web using Java servlets and JSP. She works closely with the IT and programming teams and most recently supported the domain migration by conducting pre- and post-testing, and by assisting ArcGIS server and SDE upgrades. Ms. Bruce is supporting migration of the Maryland Food System Mapping Resource application to Amazon's EC2 Cloud-based ArcGIS Server for the Johns Hopkins University Center for a Livable Future project. For Maryland Emergency Management Agency's interactive OSPREY mapping application, she performs GIS data support tasks utilizing Esri's Spatial Data Enterprise, Sql Server management studio, and ARC GIS Server. She performs a range of tasks for MD iMap, including planning for potential database security impacts of Esri's feature services, migrating existing caches to a compact format, and planning and developing a Server Object Extension for data download. For the Maryland Highway Safety Office crash analysis application, she performed an ArcGIS Server upgrade and SDE upgrade at the client site, and developed a flex widget for querying crash data. She also performs technical tasks for the Maryland Broadband Mapping Initiative and for Maryland Transit Administration's enterprise GIS. Ms. Bruce earned an MS in Applied Information Technology with focus on Database Management Systems and Web Application Programming at Towson University. She also has a BS in Environmental Studies from Richard Stockton College of New Jersey.
