Biography

Mark A. Helmken joined CGIS in 2010 as Director, bringing more than 20 years of experience and an extensive technical background in systems engineering, systems integration, GIS, and GPS and remote sensing technologies. He previously worked in utility, petroleum exploration, risk analysis, and forest products organizations, where he spearheaded development of geocentric natural resource management information systems, built cross-functional teams, and delivered award-winning projects. He received ESRI's Special Achievement in GIS awards in 1999 for his work on a Forest Resources Geographic Information System, and in 2002 for his work on the GENiSYS Development Team at International Paper Company. He holds Masters of Forestry and Bachelor of Science degrees in Forest Management, both from Clemson University.
