The International Student Ambassador program is a paid opportunity which was developed to assist newly-arrived international students in their adjustment to the United States. Student Ambassadors are involved with the optional pre-orientation week events provided by the International Student and Scholar Office (ISSO) prior to the beginning of the semester. These optional events include a welcoming event (Pizza Meet & Greet) for new students. At the Meet & Greet, new students get a chance to meet their ambassadors with whom they have been communicating long before they arrived in the U.S. This is also a wonderful opportunity for the new students to connect with members of the International Student Association, ISSO’s Graduate Assistant, members from Housing & Residence Life staff, etc.
Additionally, there are several other on- and off-campus activities scheduled during the week of orientation to help new students acclimate to their new environment. These have included shopping shuttles, campus tours, ice-skating, a trip to downtown Baltimore and baseball game, and much more! Pictures from fall 2013 pre-orientation activities can be seen on the ISSO's Facebook page.
Returning international students and those interested in working with students from other cultures are encouraged to apply. Ambassador Applications can be found here. Be sure to submit it prior to the deadline stated on the form. Returning student ambassadors are also encouraged to apply.
