Community Art Center

Year-round art classes

The Community Art Center offers year-round art classes and workshops for children, teens and adults, taught by professional artists and art educators. Classes encourage creative thinking and individual expression while teaching new skills, ideas and techniques. Small class sizes allow for individual attention while encouraging students to work on different ability and developmental levels.  Instruction is non-credit, non-competitive and taught in a positive atmosphere. 

Ages: 5 to Adult

Dates:
Fall 2007:  September 22 - November 17 (no class October 20)
Winter:  begin January 19, 2008

Spring:  begin April 5, 2008
Adult Art Studio 2007:  TBD

Times:     Saturday classes, 9:30am-12noon and 9:45-11:45am
                  Weekday children classes, 4:30-6pm
                  Evening adult classes, 6:30-9pm

Prices: Vary / discounts for siblings and TU faculty/staff

Location: Classes are held in the Center for the Arts.

Things to Know:

  • Children and teen classes include Young Artist Workshop, Drawing & Design, Studio Sampler, Clay is the Way, Cartooning, Drawing II/Painting, Potter's Wheel, Animation, Introduction to Game Design, and Adult Art Studio. 
  • Supplies provided for children's classes.
  • Adult Art Studio offered each session.  Other adult classes vary.
  • Most classes run for 8 weeks.
  • Instructors are either professional artists or certified art teachers.
  • Most adult classes open to advanced high school students. 
  • Students are encouraged to repeat classes to enhance skill level.  Topics will vary each session. 


Summer Art Camp

Summer Art Camp provides a creative experience that encourages imaginations while developing sound art skills. Students discover new ways to see and express a world of both form and fantasy. Two daily 2-hour classes in both 2- and 3-D media include drawing, painting, printmaking, sculpture/clay and mixed media. Children also explore the world of art by touring area art museums and visiting various sites for drawing on location. Afternoon swim time held Mondays through Thursdays, with special arts activities planned for First Fridays.  Exhibitions of student artwork held each session. 

Ages: 6 -14

Dates:  June 23 - August 8 -- 3 two-week sessions plus 1 one-week session

Times: Monday --Friday, 9 a.m.--4 p.m.

Extended Day Option  7:30--9 a.m. and 4--5:30 p.m.

Prices:  Vary / discounts for siblings, multi-sessions, TU faculty/staff

Location: Classes are held in the Center for the Arts.

Things to Know: 

  • Instructors are professional artists or certified art teachers.
  • Early registration is advised as sessions fill quickly. 
  • Students are placed in age groups (6-8, 9-11, 12-14)
  • All supplies and museum fees are provided. 


Computer Graphic Workshops

Computer Graphic workshops for teens and adults are offered in year-round classes and one-week summer workshop. Participants explore the possibilities of drawing, painting, manipulating images, animation, 3-D modeling and game design.  Students will be introduced to a variety of graphics programs, including Flash MX, Adobe Photoshop, Macromedia Director, Fractal Design Painter and Bryce 3D animation. 

Ages: Teens and Adults

Times: Saturday mornings (Fall, Winter, Spring) and Monday-Friday, 9:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. (Summer)

Location: Classes are held in the Center for the Arts.
